Two Decades of Massachusetts Charter School Effects

Geoffrey Kocks

TYPE:

Much of the existing evidence around charter school effectiveness in Massachusetts reflects a period before major sector changes and the COVID-19 pandemic. In this project, Blueprint researchers will update and extend prior lottery-based research to examine how charter impacts on academic and behavioral outcomes have evolved over time, with particular attention to shifts before and after the pandemic. By combining lottery data with new surveys on school practices, staffing, and discipline, Blueprint researchers seek to understand which school practices may support recovery from learning disruptions and explain differences in effectiveness across charter schools today.
