Biography

Marquelle L. Middleton is a proven leader in urban education with more than a decade of experience advancing equity, access, and opportunity through innovative enrollment and school choice strategies. As Director of School Choice & Enrollment for New Haven Public Schools, he manages a $32M interdistrict magnet program and oversees the registration of more than 20,000 students across the district. He has led transformative initiatives including the creation of transparent school choice systems, implementation of equitable transfer processes, and districtwide residency policy reform. In addition to driving policy development, Mr. Middleton is responsible for marketing and promoting the district’s interdistrict magnet programming, engaging families, and strengthening suburban partnerships to expand access and diversity. Previously, he served as an Education Consultant with the Connecticut State Department of Education, where he led the statewide collection and analysis of student attendance data, advanced strategies to reduce chronic absenteeism, and delivered actionable reports to state agencies, legislators, and school districts. His career reflects a steadfast commitment to data-informed decision-making, community engagement, and cross-sector collaboration to promote fairness and inclusion in public education. Mr. Middleton earned a Master of Arts in Politics & Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, as an Arthur Zankel Urban Scholar, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science & African American Studies from Temple University. He is currently pursuing a Certificate in Principal Preparation at the American College of Education. He is also a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., where he continues his dedication to mentorship, leadership, and service.
