Lauren Brooks currently works as the Strategic Enrollment Initiatives (Lottery) Specialist for the District of Columbia’s Public Schools on the Enrollment Team. Lauren has been the primary point of contact and liaison for the 114 District of Columbia Public Schools that participate the district’s school choice program – My School DC Lottery since 2017 where she began as the team’s lottery coordinator. A native of New York City, Lauren moved to Delaware where she began her professional career working as a program coordinator for a New Castle County Government and then transitioned to a federally qualified health center where she was a program coordinator providing access to resources and care to adults and families who were poverty stricken, with a focus on providing wraparound services to those experiencing homelessness. With an educational background in Public Health, Lauren has always been an advocate for the impoverished. She has always worked to support and implement programs and policies that are geared toward the advancement of POC, especially women and children. In her current role for the last 7 years, Lauren has been able to implement and influence strategies that allow students who may be disadvantaged to receive access to quality education regardless of their family’s socioeconomic status. Lauren is always eager to find new ways to connect her work to the district’s goals, especially those that focus on Equity. Lauren is a champion for the underdog and is never afraid to fight for what she believes. Lauren is a voice and a representative for her students and their families. Lauren has been able to foster trusted relationships with all 114 schools, always ensuring that school POCs have whatever is needed to increase enrollment within DC Public Schools. Lauren also works closely with public charter schools in DC as well as their families, providing information about DCPS’ schools and their various programming. Lauren tenure in DCPS has opened her eyes to a new world and she is planning to embark on a master’s program in Public Education Management to further her expertise and to aid her in better supporting her schools and the district’s families. During her free time, Lauren loves spending time with her loved ones, traveling, volunteering, cooking, shopping, reading, and working out/hiking.
