University researchers from MIT and Duke found that students who attend small high schools established by Bloomberg are 9% more likely to receive high school diplomas and 7% more likely to attend college, compared with students who go to older, larger city high schools.
Students at the new, smaller high schools also got four more days of instruction each year on average, according to the study, released Wednesday, of 101 schools from 2003 to 2008.
The smaller schools and extra class time led to higher scores on all five major Regents exams and better college readiness rates, researchers found.
