In an episode of the All Things considered podcast, Blueprint Labs Co-Director, David Autor, discusses how outdated U.S. government technology contributed to fraud in pandemic aid. In particular, professor Autor talks about one of the papers he co-authored, called “The $800 Billion Paycheck Protection Program: Where Did The Money Go And Why Did It Go There?” The results show that most of the PPP money did not go to workers who otherwise would have lost jobs. He concludes that a way of avoid similar issues in future crises is to update U.S. government technology.
