MIT Blueprint Labs is thrilled to congratulate Director Josh Angrist on the 2021 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences!

Josh and Guido Imbens received the award for their “methodological contributions to the analysis of causal relationships,” alongside David Card for his work on labor economics.

Throughout his career, Josh has developed innovative ways to harness the power of natural experiments in economics. These new methods have allowed social scientists to discover the causal effects of policy changes — in education, healthcare, and more. Josh’s influential empirical research has led to new insights on topics ranging from the effect of financial aid to the true impact of highly selective schools.

A dedicated teacher, Josh has taught and mentored thousands of undergraduate and graduate students during his 25 years at MIT. He has published over 50 peer-reviewed papers and two books on econometrics that are on the shelves of scholars worldwide.
