Education
This year marks a significant anniversary in Boston’s efforts to improve the education of historically disadvantaged students: the 50th anniversary of Boston’s court-ordered busing decision. In 1974, US District Judge W. Arthur Garrity, Jr. mandated busing for 18,000 students to begin to address Boston’s separate and unequal school system.
